FAQ
Questions I'm asked most often.
- How long is a visit?
- The first consultation is about 60 minutes. Follow-up therapy visits are 50 minutes. Splint making may take longer.
- What should I bring to the first visit?
- Medical records — surgical notes, X-ray/MRI imaging, your surgeon's recommendations. Comfortable clothing that exposes the forearm.
- Will therapy hurt?
- We work at the edge the tissue and nervous system can accept. Discomfort is sometimes part of the process; sharp pain is not.
- When should I start after surgery?
- Ideally within the first days after surgery, following your surgeon's protocol. The earlier we begin, the easier it is to prevent stiffness.
- Do you accept public insurance (NFZ)?
- No. HandLab is a private practice. We issue invoices for private health-insurance reimbursement.
- How long does rehabilitation take?
- It depends on the injury and stage of healing. After tendon repair — usually 12 weeks. After simple injuries — a few visits.
- Do I need a referral?
- No referral is required. Simply book a visit and bring whatever documentation you have.
- Do you take complex cases — e.g. climbers after A2 pulley reconstruction?
- Yes. One example: a 46-year-old climber after A2 reconstruction with a PL tendon graft and PIP release — a 48-week orthotic protocol (pulley ring, extension splint, EDTNO), 55° of extension regained, return to function. I present cases like this at professional conferences.
